We’re
all about putting on events in beautiful locations that attract great folks like
you. We like to think that in the ego-driven sport of triathlon, we’re kind of
set apart from the rest just by the nature of our friendly, approachable staff
and our unique subculture of participants, who never fail to create a communal
spirit at our events. Our pride is strongly tied to that sense of community
created at each of our events.
Case
in point: We’ve recently teamed up with REI to help bring you our 2003
triathlon series and our 2 nd annual Marin
Adventure Race . We don’t enter these kinds of partnerships
lightly. The last thing we want is a crowded expo chock-full of products that we
don’t necessarily believe in and salespeople haggling you as you pass their
booths. You may or may not have noticed the REI booth set up near the finishing
line. One thing was for certain, Tim Cahill of El Dorado Hills certainly did.
When Tim got a flat out on the course, he was sure that his raceday was over. He
walked back to the transition area, knowing that he hadn’t brought an extra
tube or gear to fix a flat. He stopped by the REI tent to see if they had any
fixes for his flat – a last-chance shot at being able to finish his race.
While the folks manning the booth didn’t have a tube for Tim, one of the REI
reps ran over to his car, pulled a wheel of his own bike and gladly lent it to
Tim, so he could finish his race. Now that’s the kind of spirit we like to
have at our events! A great big thanks goes out to the anonymous REI rep who
helped our pal Tim! And way to go, Tim, for sticking with it and finishing your
race!
