{"id":960,"date":"2016-03-27T17:04:19","date_gmt":"2016-03-27T17:04:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sixthelement.org\/wordpress1\/?p=960"},"modified":"2016-03-27T17:04:35","modified_gmt":"2016-03-27T17:04:35","slug":"doings-around-carlisle-and-house-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/sixthelement.org\/wordpress1\/2016\/03\/27\/doings-around-carlisle-and-house-update\/","title":{"rendered":"Doings around Carlisle and house update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was in California last week so a bit late on posting<\/p>\n<p>Prior to going to San Francisco, my parent&#8217;s and I took a walk along Two Rod Road in advance of the incoming snow storm Sunday evening (still was a bit squishy). \u00a0Two Rod Road heads off toward&#8217;s Concord, passing by Punkatasset hill before making for Concord proper. \u00a0We set off from the Malcolm Meadows parking area and even though it is spring time, it managed to look fairly &#8216;Spooky Hollow&#8221; forbidding.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/concordma.gov\/pages\/concordma_naturalresources\/Punkatasset-Estabrook%20Trail%20Guide.pdf\">According to the trail guide published here<\/a>, Two Rod Road was built to service the Blood family &#8211; who settled the part of Carlisle where my new house is and they where the family that built the sawmill in 1660 that is on my property.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Two Rod Road and Estabrook Road:<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>There are two roads within Estabrook Woods\u00a0<\/em><em>that connect Concord with Carlisle to the\u00a0<\/em><em>north . Two Rod Road was built about 1697 at\u00a0<\/em><em>the request of James Blood of Carlisle so that\u00a0<\/em><em>he would have a road from his house to\u00a0<\/em><em>Concord. It was built within a right-of-way\u00a0<\/em><em>between two stone walls set 33 feet (two rods)\u00a0<\/em><em>apart. In 1735, a second, better-known road\u00a0<\/em><em>was built from Concord to Carlisle, the Old\u00a0<\/em><em>Carlisle Road which became the Estabrook\u00a0<\/em><em>Road. This road, really a cart trail, was the\u00a0<\/em><em>route used by Minutemen from Carlisle and\u00a0<\/em><em>elsewhere to join the fight at Concord, April\u00a0<\/em><em>19, 1775. \/>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>Goings on at the house are exciting and picking up speed. \u00a0The slate floors are all in as of the end of last week and Paul is planning on starting the sanding of the oak floors tomorrow (Monday). \u00a0The slate and the tile look great. \u00a0Atlantic Industrial Models was doing machine work on the I-Beam last Friday &#8211; so it should be finished Monday or Tuesday.
